A catalyst is a substance or entity that increases the rate of a reaction. It is an entity that causes a change.

Whether we believe that our actions are based on critical thinking or rational reasoning, it is essential to recognise that our emotions influence our decisions. Our emotions are the catalyst to our actions. When we are exposed to something that evoke a certain emotion within us, whether positive or negative, we become motivated to act upon these emotions. And depending on which emotions are elicited, our actions change.

Through the use of facial expressions, body language and colour symbolism, I created a painting series that express some of the eight basic emotions we all have as human beings. Each composition, orientation and layout is intentional for the purpose of creating a strong atmosphere of the emotion the paintings portray.
