Razan Al Mubarak

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the UAE, I created a series of oil paintings that portray accomplished Emirati women in various fields. Each one of the ladies have been an inspiration to many women on a national and international level.
The ladies are painted against colours that represents their boldness, modernity and brightness. Moreover, they are engulfed in patterns that symbolises their achievements and their identity, making the paintings more specific and personal. The concept of patterns are inspired by Al-Sadu technique, which was one of the most valuable economic contribution that Emirati women made to their society. Some specific pattern designs were created with traditional henna art in mind, another Emirati female-centred heritage; while others were inspired by geometric and arabesque patterns.
